MLB The Show 18 Will Introduce "Retro Mode" To The Game
If you're an older gamer who remembers when baseball titles were a lot less complicated and a lot easier to navigate, then Sony is about to give you the chance to play old-school video game baseball in a current-gen title. Today, Sony added a new update to MLB The Show 17 in Retro Mode and announced the mode would be added to MLB The Show 18 when the game is released this March. The video below will show you a few more details, but the basics of the update is that they're taking the look and feel of the game back to the NES/SNES/Sega Genesis days by making the game look like the games of old.
Not a lot will change physically in the game, as it still will use the models and animations from the game to create the real ballpark feel. However, the menus and several of the options as far as rosters and player controls will be changed to mimic those older games we grew up with. There's also a few 16-bit menus thrown into the mix just to give it that extra feel of nostalgia. Whether this is just an exhibition version or if it can be applied to the main game is uncertain, we're leaning more to this being a one-off mode that can't be applied to the main game. But hey, it looks like fun to try!
