MOBA Gigantic Will Be Closing Down In July

Ambitious third-person MOBA Gigantic will be shutting its doors in July.

Gigantic was a decent enough game. The MOBA had some fun ideas, with the thing you were defending being a big hulking monster as opposed to a tower or mystical tree. You'd have damage phases and the two team's monsters would fight each other while players were waging their own war against each other. There was certainly a spectacle to it that doesn't always come with others in the genre.

Regrettably, it seems the title failed to attract an audience sadly and is set to close its doors in the summer. Developer Motiga said in their January update that it would be their last last, and that the game's servers would be discontinuing July 31, 2018. From now until then though, all the heroes in the game will be free to use and microtransactions have been disabled. In a note on the website, Motiga explained:

Discontinuing Gigantic was not an easy decision. The game is a unique and exciting experience that captured many hearts and minds. Unfortunately, it did not resonate with as many players as we'd hoped. Over the last several months, the teams at Motiga and Perfect World looked into viable options to sustain Gigantic. However, the current state of the game has restricted options for further progress and relevant content updates, and delivering basic features while also fixing long-standing issues was more complicated than expected.

It's always sad when a game is about to disappear. A lot of people's lives go into these endeavours and when that title is online only, it's entire existence can evaporate overnight. Hopefully, someone saves the code for the game, as it would be sad to see all of it go away.
