Mount & Blade II Shows Its Multiplayer For The First Time
TaleWorlds Entertainment has given us a glimpse of Mount & Blade II's Captain Mode for the first time. Captain Mode is a multiplayer mode of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, which is the upcoming prequel of their acclaimed game Mount & Blade: Warband. In Captain Mode, players command their own detachment of troops against other players' armies in massive and epic battles of up to 5 vs 5. So think massive 5-on-5 medieval RTS.
However, Captain Mode blends action and strategy in large-scale combat. In order to win, players have to be not only skilled and fierce warriors, but also wise and clever tacticians. And they can't just sit back and let the AI do all the work. Players will be able to control their troops' movements and formations with intuitive but powerful controls, executing complex tactics with a brand new Battlefield AI that should give you a remarkable range of tactical capabilities.
Players will also have to show their own prowess in combat with the key combat updates featured in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. Bannerlord builds on the gameplay of the previous instalments of the franchise while retaining its intuitive, direction-based combat. The directional shield blocking and shield bash, as well as the attack chaining, revitalize the whole sword & board gameplay – and all this comes with improved animations and a new combat engine that will make players live the most intense battles they have ever experienced in a video game.
Today's video included the following statement from the Dev team at TaleWorlds, which reads:
"We are very excited to show the multiplayer side of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord for the first time. We really wanted to create the best multiplayer experience we possibly could and tried to recreate medieval battlefields in a multiplayer game setting, paying attention to realism and gameplay depth. I personally think our team did a fantastic job with this and I am looking forward to seeing people play and receiving feedback."
