NBP Esports Series Will Be Holding a Splatoon 2 Event in 2019
Earlier this year we learned that Nintendo had partnered with Nippon Professional Baseball to create an esports series for Splatoon 2 in Japan. Up until now, there hasn't been a lot of talk or development on the situation in the public eye. But this week, NPB updated their website for the deal, announcing that the NBP Esports Series will be holding a Splatoon 2 tournament at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center from May 18th-19th, 2019.
Twelve teams from the fourth SplatoonKoshien tournament happening in late December will be scouted and selected to take part in the event, with each team representing a baseball team in the NPB. Meaning those of you who are Hanshin Tigers fans will have a team to root for who might actually bring you a championship next year. The teams will be divided into two leagues with six teams a piece to play against each other, much like the Overwatch League's format in the first season, followed by eliminations and league titles, then the championship. We're sure more details will happen in January after the teams are selected.
