Pokémon GO Celebrates GO Fest 2020 With Official TikTok Collaboration

Pokémon GO has announced a collaboration with the app that has taken over the internet with lip-syncing videos, 90s pop star-inspired dance routines, and frenetic editing that makes anyone over the age of 28 feel like an octogenarian: TikTok. The social media app, formerly known as Musical.ly, will introduce a Pokémon GO inspired filter in honor of this weekend's GO Fest 2020. This is the first time that Niantic's annual GO Fest has been a remote event that trainers can play from wherever they are, and it is expected to be the most widely played ticketed event in the game's history.

In their press release, Niantic announced:

From putting together fun Pokémon GO Fest printables to getting your very own official T-shirt, there are now even more ways to share your excitement about Pokémon GO Fest 2020! For a limited time, you can strike a pose with a fun Pikachu visor effect on TikTok. We can't wait to see your #PokemonGO videos as we celebrate together this weekend!

The TikToker in Pokémon GO's promotional photo, @filipino_hari, followed up the announcement by posting his first video on the app for GO Fest 2020, presumably sponsored by Niantic. With the Pikachu visor now both in digital mode on TikTok and available as a print-at-home physical hat, it seems that Niantic's goal of putting every hat imaginable on Pikachu now extends to Pokémon GO players as well.

Meanwhile, Niantic have shared the current results of this week's Friendship Challenge on Twitter. One million trainers from Team Mystic and Team Valor have completed their research, unlocking Dratini and Litwick at GO Fest 2020. Team Instinct, the Hufflepuffs of the Pokémon GO community, have not yet reached their goal, which will unlock Togetic, the evolved form of Togepi. However, with just shy of 100,000 research lines complete and an entire day remaining, it is a good bet that Instinct will pull through before the Friendship event concludes tonight at 10PM. GO Fest 2020 will begin this Saturday at 10AM local time. You can follow all coverage of the event here at Bleeding Cool.
