Space and Time Mess With Us in Outer Wilds at PAX West
We got to spend a little time with Annapurna Interactive at PAX West this year, and the first of two games we checked out was Outer Wilds. This was a rather interesting title that had a cool concept about it. I didn't get much of what was happening storyline wise, but what I got was pretty cool. You start off as a person about to launch a rocket into space to do some exploring, which helps you get a feel for the game, the puzzles, and the first-person mechanics. You discover that there is a power that resets the world after a certain amount of hours, giving you a little bit of a Groundhog Day feeling, or a Majora's Mask feeling for gamers.
This makes it so that you can skip over a bunch of stuff after you've already done it once and can focus on getting to new planets and figuring out how to change the constant of this universe. Which included me flying through space and failing to land on planets properly. Outer Wilds currently has a 2018 release date attached to it, but we didn't get any info as to when it would be released.
