Spelunky 2 Finally Gets a Gameplay Reveal

Spelunky 2 has finally seen gameplay reveal, with a new trailer showing off a couple few new features.

The first Spelunky is possibly one of the most revered platformers of the last few years. It has taken on an almost mythic quality with all the secrets and skilled runs coming together to make a beloved experience. The exploration platformer has a very strong cult audience now, and they continue to play the game to this day. That's why there was a lot of excitement when Spelunky 2 was announced back at the tail-end of last year.

There were certainly some questions as to how the game would look, and now we have an answer. We've finally seen gameplay from the title in this latest trailer. Spelunky 2 looks pretty similar to the previous game, though with some small artistic tweaks. The big new addition though seems to be in its liquid physics. From both water and lava, it seems like we will be contending with the not so solid in our journeys through old temples this time around. There are also four new characters revealed, one of which is a sloth… so, that's pretty great.

The game is set to launch in 2019, but sadly we don't have any other indication of anything more specific. Still, fans have waited patiently thus far. I'm sure they can wait a little longer. Spelunky 2 is only set for PC and PS4 right now, so we will have to wait and see if it ever comes to another console past its initial launch… perhaps on a hybrid console from a certain Japanese game's company…
