Suffering Like Never Before with Irony Curtain at PAX West
There are some games at PAX West that are challenging and some that are annoying. Irony Curtain definitely fell into the latter for us. Don't get me wrong, I love puzzle games and love to get a challenge to test my wits and make sure I'm not going completely senile. But occasionally you do get one that just irritates you. This one puts you in the shoes of a reporter forced into becoming a spy who is dropped into the country of Matryoskha with the goal of interviewing The Leader. Because it's a Russian-like country, everything is backward and done almost as an affront to normal society.
You solve puzzles int he game like converting your money into their worthless currency, putting together a stamp from items in a vending machine, and answering forms that don't make a lick of sense. There's fun to be had in this Artifex Mundi title, but after a while, it's drowned out in political satire to the point where we really got frustrated. Irony Curtain will be available sometime in 2019 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
