The Cards Of Pokémon TCG: Forbidden Light Part 7: Zygarde x3
Bleeding Cool's journey through the Sun & Moon era of the Pokémon TCG continues. Now that our spotlight series has moved through the first six sets of this block (Sun & Moon base, Guardians Rising, Burning Shadows, Crimson Invasion, Ultra Prism, and Shining Legends), now it's time to look at a set released in the middle of the era. Sun & Moon – Forbidden Light was released on May 4th, 2018. It had an array of focuses including Ultra Necrozma as well as the Kalos Legendaries of Zygarde, Yvelta, and Xerneas. This set also continued the inclusion of Prism Star cards which could be pulled by lucky collectors in the reverse holo slot. Today, let's check out a selection of cards featuring Zygarde.
Zygarde continues the set's Kalos focus. This Legendary Pokémon shows up in its three Forms here. The 10% Forme which looks like a dog gets a dynamic illustration from Akira Komayama, who draws the ground shaking around this Pokémon as it bounds through a rocky valley. We get a much creepier drawing for Zygarde in its 50% Forme, which is what this species is most often seen in. Drawn by iconic Pokémon TCG artist Mitsuhiro Arita, this slug-like Dragon creeps through a crevice between mountains. Finally, we get the Complete Forme for the set's Zygarde GX, which sees 5ban Graphics give the PS3 Game Cover treatment to this Transformer-lookalike Forme. Interestingly, Zygarde is one of Sun & Moon – Forbidden Light's four mascots pictured on the set's booster packs along with Greninja, Ultra Necrozma, and Naganadel. This is likely because Sun & Moon were the first games where the 10% and Complete Formes for Zygarde were playable.
