EA Boss Acknowledges That Star Wars: Battlefront Doesn't Have The Depth Of A Hardcore Shooter

Battlefront

It's hard to deny that there is a lack of depth in Star Wars: Battlefront by the standards of most hardcore shooters. The progression system isn't all that vast, and it doesn't take all that long to unlock all of the upgrades in the game.

And EA's Blake Jorgenson has acknowledged that. Speaking at a Nasdaq conference (via Gamespot), he said that this is largely due to the publisher and DICE aiming for a much broader audience.

Star Wars Battlefront is a first-person shooter, but it is [one of] the only teen-rated first-person shooters. We had designed it to be a much more accessible product to a wide age group. So, an 8-year-old could play with his father on the couch, as well as a teenager or 20-year-old could play the game and enjoy it. It is more accessible. And for the hardcore, it may not have the depth that they wanted in the game.

Honestly, I quite enjoy Battlefront being so casual, as it is something I can engage with from time to time when I want and not feeling the pressure of getting deep into a progression system. However, there are games that have balanced the casual and hardcore audience a little better in the past. Hopefully a fairer equilibrium can be found going forward with the franchise.
