Sega Are Looking At The Possibility Of Shenmue Remasters
Shenmue is coming back in a big way next year, with the long awaited release of Shenmue 3. The Kickstarted game will end that wait, but obviously the fans are hungry now. That's why talk of a remaster of previous titles has circled since the game's announcement.
It seems it is not lost on Sega either. Community manager, Dan Sheridan said on an episode of Sega Central, that a vist back to Shenmue 1 and 2 is being looked at.
We need to ensure that any HD remaster lives up to the quality of the original titles. With games as immersive as these, there are further complications licensed products that were included in the original games. That said, we'd love to do it and are currently investigating how to make it a reality.
As a guy who has never played the games, I would certainly have some interest in an update of the old game. Considering Sega didn't front all the money for Shenmue 3 though, I'd say they have some reservations about the franchise. Unless 3 is a total hit, I can't see it yet.
