Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! Adds Hatsune Miku

Digital diva and vocaloid Hatsune Miku will be making her way to Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! As part of a downloadable content pack when July rolls around, according to an official post on the game's website. The "Space 39 Miku Pack" can be downloaded to add a new stage where you can dance right alongside Ulala and Hatsune Miku. You can also change up Ulala's appearance and outfit to match Miku.

If you haven't played the original game, you've got a lot to look for as one of Ulala's fans. There's an all-new set of stages to explore as Ulala's rookie reporter, and since it's in VR, you've got to be a lot more hands-on this time around. You don't dance as Ulala, but rather as a sidekick on your way to thwart the Morolians' evil actions.

To do this, you'll simply need to listen to the Morolians and follow their commands by moving your arms and posing. Occasionally, you'll need to grab power-ups and dodge incoming attacks from blasters.

There's an especially interesting change with some of the enemy types, including a few singing Morolians who say more than just "Chu!" When you face off against them. You have a few more moves in Ulala's arsenal as well, such as the "Barrier" move that you occasionally have to employ. These additions are cool enough, but there isn't a lot of time to get to try them out.

Otherwise, not much has changed from the classic days of Space Channel 5, just the way you interact with it and that's all anyone was really looking forward to, after all. It's still frenetic, funky, and rife with some seriously excellent music, including some of the awkward talk-singing of the past from the older games. It's all so charming, including Ulala's new voice actress, who did an excellent job taking over from previous star Apollo Smile.

Now, you can look forward to the Miku pack to drop on July 27, so keep an eye out.
