Xbox Boss Praises The PlayStation 4 And Is Excited For What Nintendo Are Doing
Phil Spencer has never been shy about praising his competitors. He doesn't pretend they don't exist or only refer to them as 'our competition', which is the baffling tact I've seen other business leaders take.
As an examples, in a recent interview with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), he went about praising both the PlayStation and spoke about excitement for what Nintendo could be doing with the NX too. He said:
I have a lot of respect for the team at Sony and the success they've had with PS4, and it's a great time for the console industry. I've said this a few times, but four years ago when I was sitting doing these interviews it was, "Do people need consoles any more?" and, "Isn't this just dead? Everybody's playing on their phone." And now you're looking at the PS4 having sold over – I don't remember their last number – but over 20 million. And we've sold a ton of Xbox Ones globally, more than we've sold 360s [in the same period]. We're both doing really well, and I think Nintendo has a plan for the future – I don't know what the NX is, but it's great just to see the business being done.
This industry benefits a lot from the big three doing well in my mind, so it is good to see it recognised by one of its leaders. I prefer when they play nicer with one another, because even though they are competition, only good thigns can come from everyone being friendlier. Here's hoping.
