A Million MacFarlane Tropes: Promotional Photo Shoot For Film
Kaelyn Kelly-Colon writes for Bleeding Cool:
A Million Ways to Die In The West is a movie I have absolutely no interest in seeing. However, that being said, the promotional photo shoot held near the entrance of the convention center is a lot of fun. As you climb the stairs towards the show floor, you'll see the women dressed in Western inspired clothes, and that's how you know you've found it.
It wasn't all fun and games, though. I mean, seeing that Seth MacFarlane was involved put a damper on things. His trashy sense of humor was something I left behind when I turned fifteen, and since then, the only thing I care about that he was involved with is Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. I could push that to the back of my mind and still enjoy myself, but what annoyed me particularly were the women inside of the booth, who acted as props but only, as far as I saw, for men who came in to take photos. While that kind of weird heterosexual masculinity/women as property trope is not something that would surprise me coming from something MacFarlane themed, it was a little disappointing to watch this trend from my place in line. After all, with their excellent costumes, why not pose with every customer, regardless of gender?
All in all, everyone was friendly, and dressing up was fun. I picked up a fake pistol, threw on a vest and wrapped my fingers in faux pearls. Go get your free and fun dress up photo before the weekend is over, and tweet it with the hashtag #NYCCMillionways and you'll be entered in a drawing to win some money. Just don't make the same mistake I did on the prop table, there definitely are prop mustaches. If you can't find them, make sure to check underneath the feathers and funny hats.
