Why The Arrowverse Should Just Give Us Batman Already

Ever since Arrow premiered in 2012, there has been talk about bringing in Batman. When the Flash debuted in 2014 and we saw the name Wayne Enterprises on the future newspaper, the cry for a Batman appearance got louder. The Easter eggs keep coming, but no Dark Knight. Hey, Warner Bros. executives — enough, it's time for Batman to appear on the CW.

Batman

I get that they want him to appear in the big budget films. I also get that there is that show over on Fox called Gotham. But neither of those should affect what happens in the Arrowverse. The argument that we can't have a small screen and a big screen version of the same character went out the window last year when Tyler Hoechlin appeared as Superman. Everyone was happy. No better was screaming out that they were confused and how could there be two Clark Kents. Viewers accepted that Hoechlin was the Superman for the Arrowverse and Henry Cavill is the Superman for the DCEU. Comic fans have been accepting multiple versions of characters for years.

And the argument that Arrow is basically Batman with the use of Ra's Al Ghul, the League of Assassins, etc? The answer to that is simple: you put Batman on Earth-38, the home of Supergirl. They've already hinted at the character with references to Gotham and Superman's vigilante friend who uses all the gadgets and has demons. He'll fit in just fine. Or go ahead and drop him into an episode of The Flash or Arrow. He doesn't need his own series anymore than Superman does. But the fans of the Arrowverse deserve to see him in that universe.

The bottom line is: there is no good reason to limit the characters anymore. The TV series are highly successful and should be treated as such. Imagine how big a four-part crossover event would be if Supergirl had to go to Earth 1 and recruit a team to go back to her Earth and rescue the Justice League? I mean, at this point you almost have the Detroit Justice League in the Arrowverse. They're just missing Aquaman and Zatanna. The fact Arrow had to kill off Amanda Waller and Deadshot just because the Suicide Squad movie was coming was silly. The people watching the shows and seeing the movies understand that they're not connected.

Heck, you already have it built into the shows that there are different Earths. Just assigned a number to the DCEU, another to Gotham or any other series that takes place outside of the Arrowverse  and let the shows do what they want. It will work fine — until 2024 when The Flash does Crisis on Infinite Earths, Marc Guggenheim is revealed to be the Anti-Monitor and all of the worlds collapse into one. By then, Zac Efron will be playing Batman and nobody will care what is happening.
