Avatar Sequel Delayed Due To Writing Difficulties
James Cameron's plan is to write and then film all three of the Avatar seques at once… but writing the three films has proving more difficult than he expected so the first film is being delayed a year. Original schedule for late 2016, the first of the three films won't be released until the end of 2017 now.
"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a stand-alone film," said the director. "We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."
Cameron spoke while in New Zealand promoting the film industry there (Along with Peter Jackson and other directors). He film the first Avatar in New Zealand and plans to film the three sequels there as well.
