'Fantastic Four 2' Probably Won't Happen And In Other News Water Is Wet

Never forget!
Never forget!
The Fantastic Four reboot is one of the worst comic book movies ever and that goes right down to its inception. A project that was only made to hold onto the right is very, very unlikely to be any good. The rare exception to that is X-Men: Fist Class but Fantastic Four was not one of those exceptions. Everything that could have gone wrong with that movie went wrong but because of the rights issue 20th Century Fox has had to keep acting like they are going to make a sequel when no one wants that.

While out doing press for Logan Collider asked writer/producer Simon Kinberg if a sequel was still in the cards.

I have no idea. I think the truth is we would not make another Fantastic Four movie until it was ready to be made. One of the lessons we learned on that movie is that we want to make sure we get it 100% right, because we will not get another chance with the fans.

That almost sounds like artistic integrity if we didn't know that the only reason they are considering this is because 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios must continue their petty little fights for IP rights.

What movie Fantastic Four does have something in common with is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in that they both had massive amounts of re-shoots that were obvious because of footage shown in the trailer that never made the final cut. However, while Rogue One: A Star Wars Story came out on top Fantastic Four did not. That didn't stop interviewer Steve Weintraub from asking, for some reason, if there was an alternate cut to film that would ever see the light of day.

I don't know the answer to that in terms of whether or not fans will ever see it. I think B-roll is probably the place where they will see it. And for us, it's in the past in the sense of lessons learned and we would love to make another Fantastic Four movie. We really believe in that cast, and I think the lessons that we learned would help us make a more consistent movie than we did the first time.

As previously stated the things that went wrong with Fantastic Four weren't a few scenes cut out here and there and with a little splicing a good film is buried somewhere in there. This is a movie that was fundamentally broken from the beginning and no amount of the a pantless the Thing smashing a car is going to change that.

Simon, no one wants a sequel and no one wants an alternate cut of this universe. It's done so focus on other things until you have to frantically make another to get it out by 2023.
