I've always found Day of the Dead imagery fairly enticing. It's the perfect mix of simple and complex, garish and beautiful. That's a good way of describing the first trailer for Jorge Gutiérrez's The Book of Life. The design is pulling directly from the tradition and it gives the film a fairly eclectic style.
For the story stuff? This trailer gives a fair bit of away, so be warned. Hopefully there are still several surprises to be had once the film finally lands this Halloween.
Thankfully, the film has a strong Mexican pedigree, especially with Guillermo Del Toro producing.
