James Bond Producer Says the Next Film Could "Reinvent" the Franchise
One of the producers behind the James Bond franchise is discussing the need to "reinvent" the next era of the titular character.
There's been plenty of time that's passed since Daniel Craig stepped away from the James Bond franchise after being attached to several beloved entries that successfully brought the character into modern blockbuster flicks. James Bond Producer Talks "Reinventing" the Franchise
During an interview with producer Barbara Broccoli and The Guardian, the Bond producer discussed the requirements of the next era for the character, admitting, "I go back to GoldenEye when everyone was saying 'the Cold War is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, no need for Bond, the whole world's at peace and now there's no villains,' and boy was that wrong [Modernization is necessary for any new Bond actor. With Daniel Craig, we] wanted to focus on what a 21st-century hero would look like. Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character … and also, the world was ready for it. In the fall of 2021, Craig made a podcast appearance where he discussed what the next Bond actor might need to take on the project, explaining, "There's a couple of things I'd say, but I mean, one is don't be shit. I would say you've got to grab it and make it your own. I think that's the way to go forward. I mean, I just committed myself to it as much as I possibly could and tried to sort of elevate it as much as I could. I hope I've left it in a good place, and I hope the next person can just make it fly. It's an amazing franchise; I still think there's a lot of stories to tell."
