'Labyrinth' Sequel Has a Script Says Fede Alvarez

There was a story a few years back that made the rounds about a reboot of the classic, which was quickly amended to be "another film within the world" rather than an outright redo. Which would be nice- the magic of those Jim Henson created Brian Froud designs being as timeless as they are.

Last we heard, there was some development happening on the Labyrinth film-front, but things were pushed back when Netflix picked up other Henson fantasy series property The Dark Crystal, which will be coming to the streaming service as a series called Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance sometime in 2019 (hopefully).

Just this weekend, Fede Alvarez offered an update on how things are progressing on his Labyrinth film while speaking with Fandango:

"I was actually having lunch yesterday with Lisa Henson and we reconnected with that project. We're very excited about it. It is basically a direct continuation of the first movie many years later, and I can't tell you much more about it… but we have a script, and we're very excited about it so we'll see where that goes. Like always, it takes time and effort to put those movies together because they're larger than life. But that's one of the projects that I'm very excited about."Rumblings of a sequel to the much-beloved film Labyrinth seem to happen every few years, and director Freddie Alvarez says it's closer than you may think.

Needless to say, we'll keep you updated as we hear more about this project. Alvarez's next big feature The Girl In The Spider's Web hits theaters on November 9th.
