Netflix Keynote Address From CES 2016

Netflix gave the keynote address at CES 2016 this week. It was a presentation from CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos and the company has released that video for everyone to see.

Hastings starts be showing how the natural evolution of television lead to internet streaming services like Netflix. He says that the internet is changing television and we are at the start of a global revolution. They are no in over 70 million homes. They show that the number of streaming hours went from 0.1 billion in 2008 to 42.5 billion in 2015… that's quite the jump. Hastings gets the first 12 minutes to talk tech… it is CES after all.

After a trailer of their current shows, Ted Sarandos took the stage and stated that they plan on offering 600 hours of original content this year. There is an extended trailer for their new series The Crown with Matt Smith and John Lithgow as well as one for Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down.

Sarandos is then joined onstage by Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Does…), Will Arnett (Arrested Development, BoJack Horseman, Flaked), Krysten Ritter (Marvel's Jessica Jones), and Wagner Moura (Narcos).

It's a good length video which is fascinating to watch from a standpoint of how the entertainment world is changing and in what ways it's not. How streaming video may one day replace television but isn't really trying to replace theater.
