New Trailer And International Trailer For Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle
We got two new trailers for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle today. The official trailer and the international trailer give us a bunch of new information including how hard they're leaning into the video game thing.
We find out that all four of the main characters have three lives in true retro style video games. They also get stat cards and even what appear to be classes, like this is a Dungeons & Dragons game or Final Fantasy.
The plot point that I thought was interesting was the idea that Jumanji seems to adapt itself to fit its time period. In the first movie it was a board game in a time when no one was really playing board games anymore. So playing the game was kind of quaint and nostalgic. The millennials of the present day have that same level of nostalgia for classic video games, so the game itself adapted.
If this works, and right now it's looking OK at best, it becomes a franchise that moves forward in time. It mans Sony could bring the franchise back every 15 to 20 years and just adapt with the pop culture. It's an interesting idea, but if this is a hit, we all know another movie will be greenlit by the end of the year.
Summary: Four teenagers discover an old video game console and are literally drawn into the game's jungle setting becoming the adult avatars they choose.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, directed by Jake Kasdan, stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Missi Pyle. It will be released on December 20th.
