Noah Hawley Provides an Update on the Doctor Doom Movie
There are quite a few projects within the Marvel universe in the works over at 20th Century Fox. We know about X-Force, but they have also announced a Kitty Pryde movie and Multiple Man movie. One of the other ones that's been announced is a Doctor Doom movie written and directed by Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley. He announced the project last year at Comic-Con International, but we haven't heard much since. Hawley spoke to Vulture and gave them an update on the project.
"I wrote a script that I really like and the studio really likes," he says. "It needs a little work."
Hawley is a busy man though and one of the things that's keeping him from working on the Doctor Doom movie is his commitment to Pale Blue Dot.
"It's hard for me, at this exact moment — because I start shooting another movie in five weeks — to do that work. So, I mean, my hope is to go back to [the Doom movie] after [Pale Blue Dot]."
There's also the timing issue. By the time Hawley is ready to work on the movie the ink could dry on the Disney-Fox merger, and he doesn't know what will happen to his project if that's the case.
"I know there's also a little uncertainty, given the potential for a Disney merger and the fact that Marvel may regain control of X-Men and Fantastic Four," he says. "They may have a plan of their own in a desk drawer. I just don't know. So, I think there's sort of a sense of uncertainty."
We're still a long ways away from finding out of the Disney-Fox merger will happen and what will happen to any "in development" projects. The good thing for Hawley is that his movie doesn't sound like it'll be connected to any previous Fantastic Four properties. So it wouldn't be too hard to throw in a couple Marvel Easter eggs into the background to make it part of the universe.
