NYCC: Bob's Burgers Panel

bobs-burgersBC Correspondent Ian Jane reports on Bob's Burgers from the BC Liveblog:

Closing out Friday night was the Bob's Burgers panel. With the latest season only two episodes in at the time of this writing, the third to debut two nights from now it would seem that the series has definitely found an audience on the Simpsons/Seth McFarlane dominated Sunday night prime time Fox block.

The Arizona Iced Tea #iheartbigcans commercial that played before the panel began was booed! and deservedly so. It was pretty tacky. For reasons known only to convention planners, the panel table was set up behind a giant pillar, but there are enough video screens in the room that it's not such a huge deal.

A fun highlight reel played before the panel started, with 'Electric Love' filling the PA system nicely. John Roberts, H. John Benjamin, and the guys who voice Tina, Dan Mintz, and Teddy, Larry Murphy, were on hand. The emphasis here is on the voice actors.

Fox has picked up the show for a fifth season, they made it official before the fourth even debuted, as they want to keep the show going and have been incredibly supportive. Benjamin tells someone in the crowd who brought their baby that it was an awful idea because the baby will cry and the parent should shut it up.

John Roberts expresses his happiness regarding the series success and notes that he has a wonderful and creative group of people to work with on the show.

Dan looks back on the early days of the show… He sounds so much like Tina in the show that everyone is laughing over him. He figured after working on the demo it wouldn't go anywhere but it did and he is happy about it.

Larry describes it as great fun, he is also surprised that it has gone on as long as it has so far. They all note how lucky they are given that so many she's that so many people work so hard on wind up dead. Some clips are played, one to come will be exclusive and never before seen. This clip is for an upcoming Christmas episode, it is in very rough form, just basic layouts, placeholder sound effects only. It's still funny. It shows what happens when the family head out to get a Christmas tree and send Teddy to the house to turn off the oven for them.

The Benjamin talks about working with the other cast members and from there the other three talk about how they know one another, how some of them were involved in Home Movies, and how they all really like working together on the series. They crack some jokes but you can tell that they mean it.

The next clip is from an upcoming episode where Linda takes plying lessons from a guy named 'Up skirt Kurt. 'He is obviously into her and it's funny to see how she deals with it and how the family deal with it. They note this won't be on for a while because the series has been preempted by baseball, the crowd boos. The clip plays and Kurt fakes Linda into an emergency landing on a desert island called Kwikeekissit. At this point the floor is opened up to questions from the audience.
