Star Trek: The Motion Picture is getting a brand new 4K Blu-ray Steelbook release on November 19th. This release will be the theatrical cut of the film, not the director's cut, which is not included. Some might scoff at that, but previously, the only way to get the theatrical cut was to buy one of the many box sets that have been released over the years, so those who prefer that cut can now own it individually. Also, you could always just stick the director's cut disc in the case…This release will also include a booklet inside that has marketing materials from the Paramount archives for the film. Below is the Star Trek: The Motion Picture Steelbook.
Star Trek Fans: How Many Copies Of This Do You Own?
Celebrate the 45th Anniversary of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE with this limited-edition Steelbook featuring the original theatrical cut in 4K Ultra HD and a bonus remastered Blu-ray. This bold blockbuster launched one of the longest-running movie franchises, reuniting the cast of the original STAR TREK series, including William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, and James Doohan. The adventure begins when an unidentified alien intruder destroys three powerful Klingon cruisers. Captain James T. Kirk returns to the helm of a newly transformed U.S.S. Enterprise to take command. As a bonus, an exclusive booklet boldly explores the original marketing materials and behind-the-scenes images from the Paramount archives.
I wonder how many times Star Trek fans will buy this film in any version—kind of like how many versions of Halloween have come out. I own eleven copies of that film alone, so I can only imagine how many copies of this Trek fans have. But a Steelbook is one of those things that collectors like to have on the shelf.
