RC Astromech Droids Reveal Supreme Leader Snoke's Star Destroyer

Vertical integration doing its thing, those who purchased one of the new remote-control astromech droids and downloaded the Sphero app got a nice little surprise if they opened the app. It reveals the "Mega Star Destroyer" belonging to Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) of the First Order. It's called the Supremacy, and it kind of looks like something with which Captain Boomerang would conquer the galaxy.

Cynical attempts at one-upsmanship aside, it does look pretty damn cool. It's the mobile base of the First Order, and it's where Snoke resides over his army. This thing is apparently big enough to hold other Star Destroyers within it at 60 km in length. That's 37 miles, for our American friends. It's even bigger than the Super-Star Destroyers, like Darth Vader's Executor, which we saw in Return of the Jedi. It's 100 km short of Death Star size, but it could definitely be called a super weapon in the Star Wars sense. It probably has a mega laser at its nose that can down a Resistance capital ship or burn a landscape to a crisp.

I've always been a Star Wars geek — even before I was a Marvel and DC geek — so this kind of lore stuff catches my attention easily. I like knowing the planets that built the Star Destroyers (Fondor and Kuat, mostly), I like knowing the name of Imperial officers, and I love being able to name the types of aliens in Star Wars.

A capital ship that is wider than it is long is a bit of a new thing for Star Wars — with the exception of the spherical Death Star, of course. I do look forward to seeing this thing on the big screen.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be out December 15th, and it will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaacs, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, the late, great Carrie Fisher, and Gwendoline Christie.
