Rian Johnson Manages To Complete A Star Wars Movie Without Getting Fired
Breaking longstanding tradition, Rian Johnson has wrapped filming on Star Wars: The Last Jedi as the director who both started and finished the project.
Johnson posted the news on Instagram, writing, "Aaaand that's a wrap on the hardest working post production team in the galaxy. Going to miss sitting in dark rooms with these goobers." In the photo above, you can see the sense relief on the faces of a crew that managed to survive an entire Star Wars film without a sudden change of directors causing turmoil mod-production.
Earlier this month, Colin Trevorrow departed as director of the untitled Star Wars Episode IX. Back in June, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were booted off the Han Solo movie. Lord and Miller were replaced by Ron Howard, who has not wrapped the film yet, and could still technically be fired before he completes the movie. Trevorrow was then replaced by J.J. Abrams.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit theaters on December 15th. Congratulations to Rian Johnson for achieving the apparently near-impossible!
