Full Riddick Trailer Emerges From The Shadows
Patrick Dane writes for Bleeding Cool
I seem to remember liking Pitch Black a fair bit, bearing it mind it has been years and years since I've seen it.
I also remember Chronicles of Riddick trying really hard to create a mythos that the character just wasn't built for.
Riddick seems to be going back to a similar dynamic as the first, but they may have somewhat missed the point of what made the character so compelling in his first outing.

That seems to be playing with the same sort of setting and and narrative as Pitch Black, but what made Riddick work was that he was a "bad guy" that these "good people" had to trust. This, at least on first glance, looks to be a good Riddick dealing with bad people.
And there's also that the first film seemed more worried about creating relationships rather than Riddick just killing things. We don't see much sign of that kind of character work here.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing, though, and the film could still turn out great. It's just that reports of the franchise going "back to its roots" seem a little off.
