Rip Hunter Vs The Legends Of Tomorrow Round 2 – Beverly Hills Cop Style

This may be my favorite quote from Marc Guggenheim, ever. The executive producer of Legends of Tomorrow was explaining to EW.com the new dynamic between Rip Hunter and his Time Bureau and the Legends of Tomorrow he used to lead.

In season 2, he was turned evil. This is not Evil Rip. We're not making Rip a bad guy or that kind of villain, rather this is Rip as… the Ronny Cox in Beverly Hills Cop to our Eddie Murphy. He's the guy who's trying to do things the proper way, follow the rules, get things done with a certain level of efficiency, and here come our Legends of Tomorrow, who go about things a bit more unorthodox.

Of all the things Guggenheim could've referenced, he picked Beverly Hills Cop. Rip (Arthur Darvill) left the team at the end of season 2 partly because he didn't really have a place among the team anymore with Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) stepping up as Captain in his previous absence. But it seems another reason is that he prefers to do things by a certain set of rules while the Legends are much more "seat-of-their-pants" type of heroes. But Rip didn't seem to have a problem breaking the rules of the Time Masters in season one to go after Vandal Savage.
