Before Rogue One, Saw Gerrera Was A Rebel

On January 7th, Disney XD is showing a 2-part Star Wars Rebels that shows the earlier days of Saw Gerrera from Rogue One. We learn in the film that Forrest Whitaker's character was too extreme for the Rebel Alliance and he went off on his own. Its hard to tell exactly in the time line where the new story takes place as they use scenes from the film mixed in with scenes from the animated series. It also looks like we get a bit of cut footage from Rogue One mixed in.

Gerrera is an aspect of the war between the Alliance and the Empire that hasn't really been explored in the films or series. A rebel that goes to the extremes. The fact that most of his body has been replaced by robotic parts is a pretty dead on tie to the toll that the Sith pay as well. He the extreme other end of the spectrum from Darth Vader… eaten alive by his hatred for the Empire.
