Stephen Colbert And John Oliver Have A Duel Of Wax Presidents
Before going on a July break, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver unveiled the five wax presidents he bought in an auction from an closing Hall of Presidents Wax Museum in Gettysburg, PA. In the piece he shared that Rachel Maddow, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart also bought wax presidents. Oliver then unveiled a faux trailer for a Warren G. Harding biography that included the was figure, Campbell Scott, Michael McKean, Anna Kendrick, Laura Linney and James Cromwell. The other presidents he got were William Henry Harrison, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
During the segment, Oliver took a shot at Colbert's purchase of Zachary Taylor, a president who died in his first year of office due to a stomach virus. Colbert took offense to the comment, wanting to stand up for his new wax president and when Oliver was a guest on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, he brought out his wax commander-in-chief for the other former Daily Show correspondent to apologize to. Oliver refused and had his wax Harding rolled out and the two had an insult-off focused on the two historical figures.
The bit is pretty funny and a good follow up to the previous segment from Last Week Tonight. But as Oliver said on his own show, they have four more presidents to play with. If they're already getting this much mileage out of just one… can't wait to see what they do with Nixon and Clinton.
