Jack Black decided to share a small piece of "revenge" music with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show when the two got to talking about the success he's seen from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The interview covers a few topics, including his wardrobe and his upcoming SNL appearance with Jack White, but then the two got chatting about the latest Super Mario film and his work as Bowser.

Jack Black Went For Revenge In An Unused Song for Bowser

As Black tells it, when the writers and director first approached him about the film, they suggested he sing a song as Bowser, but he was hesitant at first, thinking it was a bad idea. But then he eventually asked to hear what they had written for the song "Peaches" and agreed to do it once he heard the lyrics and realized how funny it was.

Eventually, when it came Oscar time, Black was pushing to get nominated that year with the number, but they got snubbed (with Barbie's "I'm Just Ken" by Ryan Gosling winning that year). In response, Black decided to write a Bowser revenge song for being snubbed, and sang a few bars of it before killing the bit and talking about how silly it was for Bowser to be upstaged by "The Gos!" The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., and follows The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released in 2023 and earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Both the 2023 film and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.

The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and will be released worldwide by Universal Pictures.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler returning to compose the score. It stars Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Benny Safdie, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Brie Larson and will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026.
