A Trailer For Netflix's '13 Reasons Why' Takes A Hard Look At Suicide
Suicide is not exactly an easy thing to talk about and an even harder thing to rationalize. It seems completely irrational unless you've actually attempted or been in a place, mentally, where attempting sounded like a good idea. Whether or not Netflix's series 13 Reasons Why is really going to tackle that or not isn't really obvious in the trailer. It could be an interesting look into the mind of someone who is about to end their life or it could use suicide as a crutch for a mystery without really looking at the issue. It's too early to tell, for someone who hasn't read the books it is based on, but this is a subject matter that could lead this series astray quickly if it is handled poorly.
13 Reasons Why will premiere on March 31, 2017 on Netflix.
Based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher, the Netflix Original Series 13 Reasons Why follows Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will Clay be one of them?
