Vanity Fair Mistook Rumour Site As Official Confirmation That Ava DuVernay Is Directing Black Panther (UPDATE)
A few weeks ago, Bleeding Cool ran a report that Marvel had chosen Ava DuVernay to direct Black Panther. It was well sourced, though reported anonymously. I was happy with the piece we ran.
Today a newer rumour site MCU Exchange ran the story that she had accepted the offer, sourced to an unnamed people. Which is all fine and dandy. We take in in that fashion.
But Vanity Fair seemed to take this an an official announcement.
Does someone there think that Marvel MCU on Twitter is an actual Marvel Twitter account, rather than the account of MCU Exchange? It seems so
But also maybe Vanity Fair already knew that Ava DuVernay is directing Black Panther, but were embargoed, and think this is an official announcement, now allowing them to report it?
Either way, we also think that Ava DuVernay is directing Black Panther.
But official? Not yet, Vanity Fair…
UPDATE: Vanity Fair have cottoned on… the headline has changed even though the copy has yet to.
UPDATEx2: And it is a rule that any story pointing out a mistake has to itself make a mistake… Vanity Fair not Variety
