"The Batman" Casts Newcomer Jayme Lawson in Undisclosed Role

Jayme Lawson is about as green as it gets in Hollywood fresh from graduating Julliard. Joining the cast of The Batman sure gets a resume going. Matt Reeves, who's directing and co-writing the film with Mattson Tomlin, has quite the colorful cast.

Robert Pattinson stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Starting Batman's rogue gallery includes: Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Naston/The Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon. Expected to sign are Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin. Rumor is Warners is trying to court Matthew McConaughey to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

DC Officially Rebrands, Dropping Vertigo

Warner Bros released no information to Lawson's role, but will be a key one, according to Collider. While attending Julliard, she performed in numerous Shakespeare plays including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and MacBeth.

Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, there are 10 actors who played the Dark Knight in live-action across film and television. The latest was Ben Affleck, who played the character in two films: Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017). Pattinson is the sixth actor in 30 years to don the cape and cowl.

The Batman acts as a standalone film with a 2021 slated release. The film has no ties to the 2019 Todd Phillip's film Joker with Joaquin Phoenix. What direction will Reeves take with the film? Will he ground the film more in reality like Christopher Nolan? Would he shape the character more in line to the DC Extended Universe? What do you think of the cast so far?
