Well, looks like there are two things you definitely won't be seeing during tonight's Grammy Awards broadcast. In a cause/effect move, Sunday night's ceremony will not include a televised presentation of this year's Best Rock Song; with the award relegated to the non-televised portion of The Grammys. In response, hard rock band Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows has confirmed that the band would not be attending this year's ceremony. Citing a lack of respect towards rock music by The Grammys, Shadows says that it would a "waste of time and money" for the band to make the trip.

Avenged Sevenfold is nominated for Best Rock Song for "The Stage", the title track from the band's 2016 release and their first Grammy nomination. Metallica, Foo Fighters, K. Flay and Nothing More are also nominated in that category.

During a Twitter Q&A on Tuesday to promote the upcoming Grammys, the decision was first made public:

"Honored. Unfortunately they have taken "Best Rock Song" off the telecast this year so we won't be attending. Maybe next time."

After the announcement, SiriusXM's resident hard rock/metal expert and host of Trunk Nation Eddie Trunk spoke with M. Shadows to get some clarity on their Grammys situation:

●  While M. Shadows calls the move to not attend the ceremony "not really a protest per se" against Grammy organizers, the band isn't pleased by what they see as continued disrespect shown towards rock music ("I mean, how marginalized has rock become when 'Rock Song' of the year can't get two minutes?").

●  M. Shadows also emphasized that the decision to not attend was also a financial one: bands look to The Grammys as a way of getting their name and faces out there to a huge viewing audience, so the cost of attending is almost always offset by the good exposure the band would receive. In an exchange with Trunk, he explains bluntly why not being on television doesn't work for them: "And then they go and pull the 'Rock Song Of The Year' award from TV and put us in some side venue no one gives a fuck about? Fuck that waste of time and money."

●  To drive home his point, M. Shadows broke down the financial behind attending: with Avenged Sevenfold currently on tour, it would cost the band approximately $150,000 on flight costs and hotels for the musicians and their families to travel from South Dakota to New York and then to Oklahoma in order to make the event and keep their tour schedule on track.
