"Exterminate!": BBC Confirms Doctor Who 'Resolution' Big Bad (VIDEO)

The 13th Doctor Jodie Whittaker and her companions are getting themselves settled in for a long winter's nap (Series 12 isn't hitting until some time in 2020), but before the series hibernation kicks in there's the matter of next week's Doctor Who New Year's Day Special 'Resolution' that they'll have to resolve – a little more on that below.

But between now and then, many are taking a break to celebrate Christmas with friends and family – so to show their appreciation for your appreciation for all of their time-travelling, universe-saving efforts, Whittaker and a parade of well-wishers from the recently-wrapped-minus-the-special season have taken a minute to wish all of you a very merry:

Along with those warm holiday greetings, the BBC is also gifting Who fans with a new teaser for next week's Doctor Who New Year's Day Special 'Resolution.' While the teaser is relatively brief, it does confirm Bleeding Cool Doctor Who expert Rich Johnston's season finale theory regarding the special's "big bad":

"Exterminate!"

Think about it: "most dangerous creature in the universe" combined with a not-Sherlock-but-still-very-long break between seasons – the special almost begs for an "OMG!" moment to keep fans invested over the long haul.

Doctor Who New Year's Day Special 'Resolution': As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth's history. As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to planet Earth?

"We're thrilled to be starting the New Year with a bang, as Jodie Whittaker's Doctor and friends face a terrifying alien threat in an action-packed, hour-long special adventure for all the family." – Chris Chibnall, Showrunner

Written by Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip (Preacher, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency), the Doctor Who New Year's Day Special 'Resolution' airs on BBC One and BBC America on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
