"GLOW" Season 3 Opener "Up, Up, Up" an Opening Night to Remember [SPOILER REVIEW]

It's midnight, which makes it officially Friday, which means GLOW season 3 just dropped on Netflix!

Yes… I, your fearless reviewer, have taken the "burden" of staying up late and covering the first firecracker of an episode, so that you can be well rested for work and well versed in new shows!

We left off with our Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW – just in case it still needed to be spelled out) and their producers Sam (Marc Maron) and Bash (Chris Lowell) hitting the road for a residency in Las Vegas, turning their wrestling TV show into a live headlining act for the Fan-Tan Hotel & Casino, run by entertainment director Sandy (Geena Davis).

So, major spoilers for GLOW as we bodyslam our way into 1986 with third-season opener "Up, Up, Up:…

We open on Liberty Belle, the wrestling alter-ego of Debbie Egan (Betty Gilpin) and Zoya the Destroya, the alter ego of Ruth (Allison Brie) covering the space shuttle Challenger take-off live for local news.

As history shows, this does not end well and everyone is heartbroken in the wake of the national tragedy. Worst of all, it's still opening night, and now the ladies have to go on despite current events. I know they say, "the show must go on" but… yikes!

Ruth hopes to bring up the tragedy as a catharsis for the cast and audience, but everybody is firmly shutting her down. Why? Because it's a terrible idea.

Debbie rallies Ruth and the ladies for a fun romp at the craps table, which helps get the ladies pepped up for opening night.

Rhonda (Kate Nash) and her new husband (?!?) Bash work frantically to change their opening night party from its space theme, because it seemed like a great idea last week… but… you know… then there was the Challenger.

And with that, the opening night is underway! It all seems to go off without a hitch – which is great, because they all needed it. They made it through the day, and now they're headed off to party the night away in Bash's penthouse at the Fan-Tan.

As the "welcome back" episode, "Up, Up, Up" did a great job of finding a way of taking a tragedy and using it to not only reintroduce the ladies to the viewers, but also reminds us of the bonds they share – no matter how different they may be on the outside. While some see this episode as a stand-alone effort, there were enough storyline threads started to make it all-too-easy to let Netflix roll out the next episode. And then 10 hours of your life later… which is compliment to the season's strong start.
