Marc Guggenheim Talks the Arrowverse at ACE Comic Con
One of the architects of the Arrowverse and executive producer on both Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, Marc Guggenheim, was tat the ACE Comic Con this morning doing a panel with moderator Geoff Boucher. The first topic brought up was the new Freedom Fighters: The Ray animated series, but in his answer he talked about the four shows on the CW and then mentioned the fifth, Black Lightning, commenting that the CW didn't have enough superheroes. Black Lightning is not currently considered part of the Arrowverse, but it seems like they are leaving the door open if things work out.
With the Ray, Guggenheim talks about how the CW came to them pitching the character and he wanted to go with the version Grant Morrison introduced in the Multiversity comic. Also, this is the first gay meta human hero to lead his own series, and the EP talked about how they wanted to tell the story of him coming out without it being cliché. He had a love for these character prior to taking on the project, and even though it's an origin story, jumping in with the heroes of Earth-X got to show the new characters quickly.
When they move on to Arrow, he admits he's a big Billy Joel fan. He says it was his idea to have the Thanksgiving episode involve a Billy Joel concert and the use of the song No Man's Land. He talks about how Mark Hamill is in Trollhunters season 2 and that it's debuting the same day as the new film Hamill is in comes out. Guggenheim suspects that people will watch Trollhunters on the day after. They talk about Hamill as a voice actor and how there are some traces of the Joker in his Trollhunter character.
They move on to Legends of Tomorrow, where he talks about Matt Ryan reprising the role of John Constantine at the end of the mid-season finale and the upcoming 10th episode. Guggenheim says he would watch a Sara and John show every day of the week because they're so good together. He talks about the confidence they have now and how they feel there isn't much they couldn't accomplish on some level. This, of course, leads into the insanity that was Crisis on Earth-X.
When asked about characters he wants to use in the future, his first answer is that he wants to see The Question on Arrow. As does everyone, I think.
