Michael Wolff's 'Fire and Fury' Gets a Director for TV Adaptation

Fire and FuryJay Roach (Game Change) has been tapped to direct and executive producer a television adaptation of Michael Wolff's salacious White House tell-all novel, Fire and Fury. Roach had been attached to an HBO movie about the 2016 election, but he has since moved on since the project was halted. He has made quite a name for himself doing political charged dramatizations earning him four Emmy Awards. He has two for HBO's Recount, the story of the 2000 presidential election, and two for the Lyndon B. Johnson biopic, All the Way. Game Change was the television movie about John McCain and Sara Palin's failed run for the White House.

He seems like the perfect choice to helm the adaptation of Fire and Fury, the controversial book that became an instant best-seller, delving into the first year of Donald Trump's tumultuous presidency. Many of the released excerpts painted trump as in way over his head with palace intrigue and infighting all around him. Some of the quotes in the book attributed to former White House adviser Steve Bannon lead him to resign from his position at Breitbart News.

The project Roach had been on, adapting the third book in Mark Halperin's Game Change series was stopped after Halperin was accused of sexually harassing women. Roach's directing history is interesting, having done all three Austin Powers movies, along with Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and Dinner for Schmucks… doesn't immediately make you think he's the guy for political adaptations, but he has proven himself time-and-time again.

The Fire and Fury adaptation has yet to be attached to a network.
