UFC 297 is this weekend, and in the main event, Middleweight champion Sean Strickland will defend his title for the first time against Dricus du Plessis. Strickland won the title from Isreal Adesanya at UFC 293 last fall. The controversial champion, never one to mince words, has gotten himself over with a certain part of the MMA community while turning off others with his comments on a variety of subjects, including homosexuality. Once again, at the UFC 297 press conference in Toronto, he let off a tirade of homophobic comments directed at a reporter who was asking about his previous homophobic comments.

UFC Gets What They Get With Strickland

MMA Fighting's Alexander Lee asked Strickland about comments he made in the past where he stated that he would "feel like he failed as a man" if he raised a son who turned out to be gay. The champ asked the reporter if he himself was gay, to which Lee replied he was an ally of the community. This was Stickland's response: "You're a weak f***ing man, dude. You're a part of the f***ing problem. You elected Justin Trudeau," Strickland said. "You're just f***ing pathetic. The fact that you have no f***ing backbone, and as he shut down your f***ing country and seized bank accounts, you asked me some stupid s**t like that? Go f*** yourself. Move the f*** on."

He then went on another tirade after Lee asked him about his comments on the whole Bud Light controversy. As a reminder: Bud Light is now a major sponsor of the UFC: "Here's the thing about Bud Light: 10 years ago, to be trans was a mental f***ing illness. And now, all of a sudden, people like you have weaseled your way into the world. You are an infection. You are the definition of weakness. Everything that is wrong with the world is because of f***ing you. The best thing is, the world's not buying it. The world's not buying the f***ing bulls*** you're pedaling." (Thanks to Awful Announcing for the translations)

Strickland has had numerous run-ins with the press and usually responded to them on his podcast The Man Dance. He and Dricus got into a brawl cageside at December's UFC 296 when seated a row away from each other and being shown on camera.

UFC 297 takes place in Toronto, Canada this Saturday night. The main card stands here as of now:
