How Little Will Your Store Sell Marvel's Point One For? (UPDATE)
Marvel did all they could to encourage orders of Point One, a fifty-odd page $5.99 comic, set to plan the future of all manner of comic books coming out from Marvel next year. From the rather obvious identity of "It's Coming" to an entertaining set of twins new to Marvel to the identity of the new Scarlet Spider to the return of Nova, there's all sorts of stuff going on in it. But even a fifty-ish page comic book has difficulty selling for $5.99 these days, even with the gamut of name creators Marvel put on the book. So Marvel created a number of incentives to reduce the cost to retailers who ordered plenty.
And then the day after the orders were due, Marvel doubled every comic stores orders for free.
Which means, today, most comic stores will be swimming in Point Ones. However many they thought they could sell at $5.99, they've now got double.
So the hunt is on. Just how desperate will comic stores be to get rid of copies? Halving the price to $2.99 is the natural choice as one retailer in Calgary, Alberta is reportedly selling their copies for. But there may be more inventive promotions too.
Do let us know how your shop is coping and we'll update through the day.
