Sony Offer 5 Free Days Of PlayStation Plus And 10% Discounts As Apology For Attacks

playstation-4-console-HDThe big story over the Christmas break in the gaming world was the Lizard Squad DDoS attack on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. The attack meant that the services experienced extended period of down time on Christmas Day and beyond. Xbox Live recovered fairly quickly, only facing a day or two offline, but the PlaytStation Network experienced problems for several days after.

In an apology post on the PlayStation Blog, it's been revealed that the company are going to offer a little compensation for the down time. If you had PlayStation Plus during the Christmas attacks, you'll get a 5 day extension to your subscription as well as a code for 10% off anything in store. That will come in effect "sometime this month".

In the past, PlayStation have offered free games for drops in their services and I've already seen some posts that are disappointed they aren't getting any this time around. To me that feels a little…entitled. For the period the service was down, I think the apology fits. Just. It will certainly help if the 10% can be stacked on top of pre-existing sales. No word on if that is possible yet, though.
