Courtesy of Google's Frightlist statistics, we get the word that in 2017, fresh from her tentpole movie, Wonder Woman has uncrowned Harley Quinn from the top spot of Halloween costumes of choice. And a certain Pennywise from Stephen King's It helped Clown rise to third place.

Wonder Woman And Harley Quinn Are 2017's Most Popular Hallowe'en Costumes, As Girls Prefer Superheroes To Princesses

Here's the top ten list…

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Harley Quinn
  3. Clown
  4. Unicorn
  5. Rabbit
  6. Witch
  7. Mouse
  8. Pirate
  9. Zombie
  10. Dinosaur

Additionally, Batman is at #17, Joker at #23, and Spider-Man at #28. And Catwoman down at #41. And for the first time, more girls are likely to dress as a superhero this Halloween (12%) than a princess (10%).

A number of celebs are joining in with the Wonder Woman look, including Susan Calman for BBC's Strictly Come Dancing

And Holly Willoughby as Zombie Wonder Woman for Celebrity Juice's Halloween Special…

If you want to join in, you can learn how to braid like an Amazon with Duck And Dry…

And you can use the Aftyfakes costume guide to Wonder Woman, sponsored by Warner Bros., starting right here.

Expect Wonder Woman to keep her spot next year. It's going to be a long way for Captain Marvel to climb in 2019… and we'll have Wonder Woman 2 by then, as well. That Untitled Female Spider-Man movie that Sony originally planned for 2017 could have had a stronger impact if it had actually been Spider-Gwen as rumoured.
