New York Giants May Fire Head Coach Bob McAdoo Tomorrow

If the move does take place after the Giants' game against the Oakland Raiders today, it would be extremely uncharacteristic of the franchise. In a statement from Mara and co-owner Steve Tisch following the teams loss to the previously winless San Francisco 49ers, the team's normal strategy for evaluating coaching staff was laid out:
"Our plan is to do what we have always done, which is to not offer a running commentary on the season. It is our responsibility to determine the reasons for our poor performance and at the end of the year, we will evaluate the 2017 season in its entirety and make a determination on how we move forward."
But, after the Manning benching, Mara was asked if McAdoo was safe for the rest of the season and he replied, "There are no guarantees in life."
As a franchise, the Giants tend to give head coaches a fair shake. If McAdoo is fired before the season's end, it will be the first time the team had done a mid-season firing in over 40 years. They fired Bill Arnsparger after an 0-7 start in 1976. It would also be the first coach fired after only two seasons since Ray Handley was let go in 1992. Handley's record was 14-18; McAdoo's is currently at 13-15 going into today's game.
This would be the first head coach firing of the season, but it's believed that between 8 and 10 coaches may be let go by the time the 2017 year is complete.
