WWE Has Fired Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore in Wake of Rape Allegations
Following yesterday's news that Enzo Amore was suspended indefinitely following accusations of sexual assault and a reported police investigation, WWE has fired Amore. The company announced the news with a single-sentence article on their website and corresponding tweet, noting:
The firing comes in the wake of an accusation by a woman wishing to remain anonymous that two associates of Amore invited her to a hotel room, gave her drugs, and left while Amore forced himself on her in Phoenix, Arizona on October 18th. Pro Wrestling Sheet confirmed with the Phoenix PD that a complaint was filed and an investigation ongoing, and implied that the investigation was nearly complete.
In an unusual situation, Amore's firing comes while he is still officially the WWE Cruiserweight Champion and top star of the company's Tuesday night show, 205 Live. Amore was expected to defend his title against Cedric Alexander at the Royal Rumble PPV on Sunday. It's unclear how WWE will address the firing on-air, but it will be nearly impossible to avoid doing so since they'll need to explain the title situation.
