Epic Games Declares It Won't Ban Players For Political Speech

Epic Games made an impact today on the esports world by declaring they would not ban any Fortnite players for making politically motivated statements. The statement comes in the fallout from Blizzard Entertainment suspending one of their Hearthstone players for making a statement on the current political upheaval in China. Specifically pertaining to the protests happening in Hong Kong. This morning, in an interview with The Verge, the company announced that it would not take such a policy against any players in their esports division.

Fortnite developer Epic Games said in a statement that it will not ban players or content creators for political speech. The message comes after Blizzard caught fire this week for banning a professional Hearthstone player for shouting a statement associated with Hong Kong protesters.

"Epic supports everyone's right to express their views on politics and human rights. We wouldn't ban or punish a Fortnite player or content creator for speaking on these topics," an Epic Games spokesperson told The Verge.

Blizzard has faced severe backlash from the esports community over the incident, which we'll be talking about later today.
