Tom Hanks Talks Becoming Fred Rogers for "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"
There are some people are just too good for this world and one of those people was Fred Rogers. Kids of a certain age grew up on him and he has since got viral with the younger generations with his plea for funding for PBS. Back in 2018 one of the best documentaries of the year, one that made a lot of grown-ups burst into ugly tears in theaters, was about Fred Rogers. Now we have a new movie on the way starring everyone's favorite actor Tom Hanks. Sony has just released a new featurette for the upcoming movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. In it, Hanks talks about how he isn't just doing an impression of Fred Rogers but instead trying to channel his essence.
Summary: Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America's most beloved neighbor.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, directed by Marielle Heller, stars Tom Hanks, Matthew Rhys, Enrico Colantoni, Chris Cooper, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Sakina Jaffrey. It will be released on October 18, 2019.
