Booze Geek Special

Beer: The Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA
Brewery: Terrapin Beer Co.
ABV: 6.7%

It was only a matter of time. Zombies have infiltrated every nook and cranny of our society. The Walking Dead has become one of the most successful shows of all time. People love beer and people love The Walking Dead. This is not the first zombie themed beer I will have reviewed, but I don't think I need to recommend anything to go with it. It clearly labeled as such on the bottle, hovering above the now undead turtle mascot for Terrapin.

This Blood Orange IPA was a very dark hue of red, more of a burgundy really. It produced a thin head that lasted for quite a while. The beer gave off only mild scents of orange peel, hops and candied malt.

Unlike some of the other beers I have had with blood orange thrown into the mix, this one was made with the peel rather than the actual fruit. The peel gives it a more of a wheat beer style. The beer was not bursting with flavor, rather it was more subtle and in the background. It was fairly bitter, if not overly hoppy. I also noticed some light malt in the finish.

Overall, this was a decent beer. The flavors were generally quite subtle, which was not bad, but I was expecting a bit more punch from it. If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, then this is a must have for you.

Dylan Gonzalez happens to love beer and comic books and luckily found a place to write about both because he has no idea how to actually make money in the real world. He lives in a cave in New Jersey. Tweet him at @BeardedPickle, follow his own beer blog at http://boozegeek.tumblr.com/or email him at dylan.gonzalez1990@gmail.com.
