Brexit to Make Comics in Britain Even More Expensive
Diamond UK, the British wing of Diamond Comic Distributors, and the monopoly distributor to the direct market of comic book stores for Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Boom, Dynamite and many more comics every week, has had a hard time of it of late. The British pound continues to crash against the US dollar as the impending likelihood of a no-deal Brexit becomes more and more likely, which affects imports from overseas, European and otherwise, making them more expensive.
Which includes all those comic books from Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Boom, Dynamite and many more. Today, Diamond UK has informed retailers of the following;
For the past 3 years we have been doing our best to maintain pricing levels. However, after the substantial reduction to the value of sterling last week and the continued increases in freight and general running costs, after careful consideration, we will be increasing our UK prices with effect from Friday 30th August 2019.
The price changes on this occasion will only be implemented on specific products and not across our entire range; the products affected are comics and supply items.
Please click HERE for details of the price changes due to take place; these new prices will apply to all unfilled orders and all product invoiced with effect from Friday 30th August; re-orders for in stock items placed up to noon that day will be billed at the old price.
The new prices will be in place for the September 2019 Previews order form
Our aim continues to provide you with the best possible service and we do hope that these measures will be enough to see us through this current period of instability, mainly due to the adverse effects on the exchange rate, together with rising costs, as a result of BREXIT.
We hope that the steps we've taken to try to lessen the impact of any price rises will still enable you to retain your current order levels. However, if you do wish to enquire about reducing any current orders then please contact your customer service rep who will be able to look into any request for you.
This may also be exacerbated that, against the odds, ComiXology has not put up prices, considerably cheaper than retailer prices anyway, now likely to be more so. And also, conversely, for anyone around the world who can get a ComiXology UK account, that's the cheapest place to buy new big name comics digitally right now…
